Obsessing about The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (with spoilers) Heavy Crown Press Podcast

I read Oscar Wilde's epic novel for the first time in the autumn of 2019. I made this video on 21 October 2019. I did not cover all aspects of it, not by any means, but I think I touched on the major themes: youth & beauty forever versus aging, conscience & soul versus the form & surface of things. Hello. My name is Ashley. I’m a writer. I write because, full stop. I write because it is what I’m compelled to do.

My Substack is a place for me to use my writing to grow. I write on topics of spiritual growth a lot, but I also write reviews and analyze other people’s works. My Substack writing is always geared toward expansional wisdom. Creative works help us to see what is sometimes right in front of our faces, but too up close and personal to distinguish it from the noise around us. Then, perhaps, a good book, a penetrative film, or a stirring song helps us to sense the truth. I have done reviews for old films and new films alike, the same for books. To me, it is not the era of the work that matters so much as the content. Something is never too old or too young to have something worth catching. Wisdom has no age. Truth is eternal and goes on forever. The great consciousness of the universe does not shift in the way of things that exist only in the temporary world of form. A body ages, lives and then dies. A spirit just is.

At the moment I am writing a contemporary romance in Kindle Vella. Kindle Vella is an episodic platform where writers can publish their books chapter by chapter, and readers can experience the book as it is being written. You can read the first three episodes without paying. If you like what you’re reading and you want to read more, you buy packages of tokens. The kindle app prompts you to purchase tokens and unlock the episodes you want to read. I’m fondly support the Kindle Vella platform. I not only write my own stories there, but I also review other people’s stories. See the link above to the newsletter for Kindle Vella Reviews. I think Kindle Vella, in general, is a valuable tool with many advantages and still more potential for creative expression and reading enjoyment.
